Message from Ascend Houston Chapter
Ascend Houston asks you, as a Resilient Leader, to help provide financial assistance to Houston winter storm survivors. Let us help them build back stronger, better, and more resilient than ever. Collectively, let us do our part to show Houstonians they are not alone in their fight to recover what was lost.
“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much” – Helen Keller
Ascend Houston Chapter will mobilize the funds directly into the local community and will go towards areas such as:
Bills (e.g. high electricity bills)
Home Repairs
Meals
Housing expenses (e.g. Hotel or AirBnb stays)
Replacing living necessities (e.g. clothing, diapers, toiletries, etc)
Water (e.g. some remain without water)
Our Story
February 15-19, 2021 millions of Texans faced a catastrophic winter storm consisting of consecutive days of below freezing temperatures. During this time, Houstonians were caught off guard by the unexpected power outages, loss of water, burst pipes and more. Unfortunately, the comfort of one's home turned into uncomfortable living situations requiring us to do what we could to survive our situation. This winter storm devastated too many families, households, and businesses. The record-breaking effect has taken, and continues to take, a toll. We need your help!
The pictures below do not do justice to the full extent of the dismal living situations some Houstonians are struggling through. Many Houstonians face thousands of dollars in house repairs to fix damages (e.g. broken pipes, the spread of mold, etc). Additionally, nearly one month later, there are still households without running water. The effects from the winter storm will be felt and seen for months to come thereby creating a long recovery process for many families. It is heartbreaking that many are either displaced from their homes or are living in unhealthy/unsafe dwellings because they cannot afford to temporarily live elsewhere, livelihoods are temporarily or permanently on hold and most importantly the light at the end of the tunnel cannot be seen.
While some of us are surviving, there are those who direly need assistance. As members of Ascend, we are all committed to being the finest and most Resilient Leaders in the country. Resilient Leaders have unique qualities that enable us to support those in need and who generously provide support during challenging times.
